The mission of Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the heart of the nation's capital with the nation's capital at heart. We believe the Gospel is full of good news -- good news that can transform ordinary lives into extraordinary lives. We believe this good news enables people to see that their first identity is as a child of God - beloved, beautiful and precious in the eyes of God. We believe that this good news is the most amazing gift any of us could ever receive or share.

Our vision is for God's love to be shared. Mount Vernon Place has been serving in the heart of Washington since 1850. Being in the center of the city is an extraordinary privilege. However, this privilege brings with it many responsibilities. We yearn to share God's love with our city and its many residents -- from the attorneys who work across the street to the homeless who sleep on the church's lawn at night; from the visitors who come for a meeting at the Convention Center to the hotel workers who make the beds next door. We believe that sharing God's all encompassing love with all of these people is our greatest challenge and our only hope.
