We have an exciting vision for the future...

Mount Vernon Place UMC is in the process of redeveloping a portion of our land while also creating an exciting new partnership with Wesley Theological Seminary, located at 4500 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Wesley is one of the thirteen United Methodist seminaries in the United States.

Last year, in 2007, our two educational buildings were demolished. A large hole has been dug, and soon a new mixed-use building with office and retail space will start emerging from the ground. The church's fellowship hall, kitchen, classrooms, offices and gathering spaces will be located in this new building. In addition, our 1917 historic sanctuary and its building are being completely restored to its original beauty. This building is undergoing an extreme makeover! At this time, we are scheduled to be back in the sanctuary in July of 2008 and plan to occupy the new building in the fall of 2009.

Through the innovative partnership, Mount Vernon Place UMC will benefit from the rich resources of Wesley Theological Seminary, and Wesley students will learn about dynamic urban ministry in the "teaching labs" of Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church and our neighboring churches. Wesley Seminary will house 18 students in the new building, and seminary classes will be taught at the church in the evenings.

We look forward to having our building occupied - not just on Sunday mornings or once or twice during the week but as much as possible as Wesley students take classes here in the evenings, as people gather for worship in the early morning or lunch hours in our Chapel, as all kinds of musical events happen in the evenings, and as youth groups are hosted here during mission trips throughout the week. We look forward to this place becoming a life-giving place for all people!

While we redevelop our property, we're also redeveloping our congregation and our lives. After all, there's always room for improvement. Come join us in the process!
