Sensing God || Seeing God

Genesis 9:8-17 & Mark 1:9-15

Where is God? If God is real, then why can’t I see or hear God? How can I cultivate a relationship with God if I have no idea how to experience God?

Many of us ask these and similar questions regularly. And while many questions in life have binary answers, little about faith is clear and concise. But what if God is not only Emmanuel, God with us, but also one who can be experienced through ordinary means each day? In her book, Life in Five Senses, Gretchen Rubin writes, “Because I noticed more, I appreciated more.” What if the same can be said of our faith and God’s movement in our lives?

Our Lenten worship series will begin with experiencing God through sight. While you might have perfect vision or glasses that allow you to see with complete clarity, how wide is the lens through which you view all that is around you? Our brains have fortunately been trained to alert us to see what is most important to us. What, then, have we been taught to overlook? Gretchen Rubin notes how, “The more I looked, the stronger the habit grew.” How might we nurture the habit of intentionally seeking to see God’s presence and power in our lives?
