about us

Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church has long been a staple in ministries of justice in Washington, D.C. Our congregation regularly supports over a dozen different ministries in downtown Washington and in places around the world. In addition, regular opportunities are scheduled for individuals from the church to go out into the community and serve. Regular opportunities include:

Second Monday of every month: Slice and dice at Food and Friends (219 Riggs Road, NE). You are invited to help prepare meals for individuals living with life-threatening illnesses such as AIDS and cancer. Our work begins at 6:00 p.m., and we finish preparing the meals by 8:00 p.m. Please contact Beth (bethie_ksu@hotmail.com) to sign up for this opportunity.

Fourth Sunday of every month: You are invited to join us as we serve dinner at Calvary Women’s Shelter ( 928 5th Street NW). We prepare dinner in the afternoon at someone's home and then serve at the shelter at 5:30. Please contact Beth (bethie_ksu@hotmail.com) if you would like to enjoy a night of fellowship with some of our neighbors or contribute something to the meal.
