Rev. Dr. Donna Claycomb Sokol was appointed as our pastor on July 1, 2005. She earned her undergraduate degree in economics from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri, her Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina, and her Doctor of Ministry degree in preaching at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. Prior to responding to her call to ministry, Pastor Donna served as a White House intern in the Clinton Administration, on the staff of U.S. Representative Eric Fingerhut from Ohio, and U.S. Senator Tom Harkin from Iowa. Her other appointments include Minister of Congregational Care at First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville, N.C. and the Director of Admissions at Duke Divinity School. Pastor Donna has written for Pulpit Resource and the preaching resource, Proclaim, in addition to being a contributor to Sourcebook of Worship Resources, Volume 5. She is a member of the Baltimore Washington Conference Board of Ordained Ministry, serves on the Board of Trustees for the Fund for Theological Education in Atlanta, and has participated in several conversations on the issue of faith and vocation. Pastor Donna is married to Craig Sokol.

Rev. Jason Hill Our Deacon and Director of Music, Worship, and the Arts

Rev. Jason Hill joined Mount Vernon Place in Ministry in November of 2010. He earned his BA in Musical Theatre Accompaniment and Conducting from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK, his Masters Level Performance Certificate in Piano Performance from the Chicago Conservatory of Music, and his Master of Arts in Music Ministry from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. Besides his work in ministry he has served as a pianist for the Marine Band (Marine Forces Pacific), Fort Shafter Army Theatre, Carnival Cruise Lines, and the New York production of Forbidden Broadway; staff accompanist for the University of Oklahoma School of Musical Theatre, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma and Theatre Under the Stars in Houston, Texas. He was the Conductor for the National Tour of George M! and Associate Conductor for the National Tour of Grease, starring Frankie Avalon and Olympic Medalist Elvis Stojko, and New York productions of Showboat and Jekyll and Hyde. He began seeking Ordination in 2006 in Northern Illinois Conference and has a growing passion for connecting the church with the world. He has a passion for congregational song and post-modern worship, including "traditional" and "modern" hymnody, "contemporary Christian Music," world music, ethnic music…all melded together to be both theologically sound, good congregational song, as well as powerful toward the mission of making disciples. He loves using all artistic mediums in worship, but has a special passion for puppet ministry.
Chris Weathers Director of Operations

Chris Weathers has lived in the DC Metro area since 2000. After several years as a university housing administrator at George Mason University, Chris joined Mount Vernon Place UMC in late 2008. Chris grew up in Florida and Alabama. He received a BA in English in 1996 and a MEd in Higher Education Administration in 2000 from the University of Florida. Chris and his wife, Sheri, live in Arlington, VA with their first child, Ike.
Carol Travis Administrative Assistant

Carol Travis is a native Washingtonian , a proud product of the Washington, DC Public Schools, and holds degrees from Trinity College and American University After retiring from Verizon Communications after 36 years of service, she has been on the staff of Mt. Zion UMC in Georgetown, Good Hope Union UMC, Asbury UMC and currently serves as an Assistant Regional Dean in the Discipleship Academy and the Secretary to the Board of Directors of the African American Methodist Heritage Center, which are part of the local and national United Methodist Church structure. A life long member of Asbury United Methodist church, Carol serves in several capacities within the ministry. She is excited about being in service at Mount Vernon Place UMC, and enjoys interacting with church members and welcoming visitors to the church. The light-filled, open design of the building is an appealing aspect of the building and what is apparent to her upon entering or even passing by the structure.
Dorcas Miraples Roco Childcare Provider
Dorcas moved to Washington, D.C. in 2010 from her home in the Philippines. Beside caring for our children she is a pre-kindergarten teacher in Northwest, Washington, DC. Her extensive education and background reflect her passion for working with children, including Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate, Bachelors degrees in Special Education and Political Science, and a Masters degree in Special Education and Child Study, as well as a background in scientific research. Among her honors is the reception of “Model Employee of the Year" in 1994 at the Department of Science and Technology, Science Education Institute in Bicutan, Taguig, Metro Manila. We are blessed to have her caring and nurturing our young disciples.

Jay Campbell Wesley Ministry Intern
Jay Campbell started at MVPUMC in August 2011. He comes from Birmingham, Alabama where he received his BA in Political Science at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is currently pursuing a Master’s of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary. He is following a call of pastoral ministry and hopes to be an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church. He has a passion for preaching, modern worship, youth, and global missions. Prior to moving to DC, he has served as a youth pastor in two churches for three years. He is a big fan of the Tennessee Volunteers, secretly loves professional wrestling, and wants to be a superhero.
Paul L. D. Roberson III Security Concierge
Paul is a Washington native who grew up in the suburbs of the capital city. He attended Oxon Hill High School and the University of the District of Columbia. He joined our team in 2010, and when he is not serving our community he is a Green Technology Home Energy Auditor. He has a teenage daughter and has a passion for volunteering with the Welcome Home Re-Entry Program which is part of the Prison Outreach Ministry housed here at Mount Vernon Place.
